The album "In the Shadow of the Balkans"by Bulgarian guitarist Dimitar Ivanov consists of contemporary works inspired by the traditional music from the Slavic Balkans. We can recognize the nostalgic melodies and unmeasured songs, the complex rhythms in the lively pulsation of those dances, all characteristic for this region. Those musical characters, which are haunted by the sound of both the classical and the acoustic guitars, are contrasting with their dynamics, their colors in a diversity of emotions. "In the Shadow of the Balkans"presents works by Rossen Balkanski, Atanas Ourkouzounov, Miroslav Tadic. A new arrangement of the “Six Balkan Miniatures”by Dusan Bogdanovic for guitar trio is also integrated and presented for the first time in this album. The work is arranged and recorded only by Dimitar who superimposed the three guitar parts. Other interpretations find an interesting realization in Dimitar's personal vision: research of specific sound, recording techniques and subtle presence of sound effects.
